Lent is a period of prayer and reflection that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. Lent is a holy season of preparation for the church. During Lent, we follow Jesus on the road towards Jerusalem and his death on the cross for our sake. Lent recognizes that life is full of temptations and that we too often succumb to sin and distance ourselves from God’s will. In Lent, God calls us to a time of simplicity where we focus our attention on God’s voice. Jesus himself spent forty days in the wilderness fasting and praying so that he could more clearly discern God’s direction for his life.
